Thought process of a no longer coucghing maniac (part 2)

Once again, i promise no hint of intelligent thoughts here,  but for the sake of entertainment please consider the observations of a Gaijin in the Land of the Rising Sun....

Train station escalator-
Often enough you will leave the subway system of a Japanese city which has faithfully gotten you to your destination. So at that point you find a escalator that you believe will take you to the surface.  Nope! it takes you halfway.. and you still have a steep stair climb... The reason why they do this befuddles me...

Indoctrinate them while they are young-
I recently see in this cold winter weather, mothers with warm looking jeans on and the little girls by there side with the typical japanese women fashion of short skirt to mid thigh.  At least moms legs are warm i guess....

With those short skirts... you would think when they get older they can't help but to have bad arthritis in there legs right?

Tokyo is becoming very anti-smoking,  whether inside or outside it seems to be becoming illegal.  But the whole nation smokes and cigarettes are still relatively cheap especially by American standards  4.50 a pack around.  But what is occuring is they are building smoking boxes by train stations and  crowded areas. But often there are 30 smokers for a box that fits 10  so you have a no mans land you have to walk through which is more deadly than if you can just walk around the 1 or 2  persons smoking around you.

Cash only country,  its a dangerous proposition walking around japan with plastic instead of paper.   Most restaurants require cash and so does the trains.  No swiping a ride here unless you add physical cash to your 'suica'train card. For such a technological nation  debit and credit cards are scarcely used, probably for the best thought.
